13th January 2006 - Our thoughts on the morning of Eviction Day...

So here we are, eviction day is upon us, and we wait with bated breath, pacing the room, scanning all forms of media for indications of which way we think the vote is swaying as the day progresses. With an uncomfortable feeling in our stomachs, similar to waiting to sit an examination, we carry on with our daily duties whilst contemplating what the outcome of tonight's events will bring.

This week has been somewhat surreal for all of us. Jodie's experiences in the house so far have caused somewhat of a media frenzy. Every person close to Jodie has had to juggle tv, press and radio interviews around their jobs, along with keeping track of events in the house, media opinion, and trying to cope with the various ways that Jodie's treatment in the house has affected us all.

This morning, we went to BBLB, where Neil Razor Ruddock performed a 15 second plea on Jodie's behalf. General feeling on the show interestingly seemed to sway towards George being evicted tonight and, having read various articles concerning George's absence from duties including attending the cross rail conference and the outrage it has caused among his constituents, I can see that there are many other factors surrounding George's possible eviction tonight other than his behaviour in the house this week.

On a lighter note, Dermot O'Leary also took it upon himself this morning to perform a very unusal experiment to gauge the eviction outcome in the form of a snail race, of which George (the snail) was the winner, and hence also the housemate to be evicted tonight. Stevie, who came with us to BBLB, was not as concerned with the outcome of the race as he was with the beautful vision of Dermot at 8am this morning, standing in awe at the rear of the studio in what he thought was secret admiration...until he discovered his professions of undying love for Mr O'Leary had been mistakenly broadcast around the entire crew due to his unfortunate proximity to an open mic! Hours later, Stevie was still literally glowing with embarrassment, and even had a sunbed session to try and blend his body colour in with the redness of his face!

There has been a wide range of opinion in the press today. The Sport has mentoned the bullying of Jodie, covering the appearance of Marge and Parge on GMTV, The Mirror suggests Pete may have now realised that he has taken things too far in his tirade against Jodie, suggesting that maybe voters should let Jodie stay in the house to give her a chance to turn things around, and various tabloids have covered the Jimmy Saville story who insists that he will readily give comfort to the victimised Jodie. All of these articles do not give mush indication of public opinion but my favourite article today was definitely an eloquent piece written by Germaine Greer for the Guardian.

Germaine highlights the blatant bullying that Jodie has been suffering in the house, likening the behaviour of the tormenting housemates to that of primates in their natural environment. It is the most thought provoking take on the activity in the house that I have read so far, and if you are reading this Germaine then thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Anyway, there is not mush else that we can say today until we know the outcome of tonight's eviction. Jodie has seemed to be in mush lighter spirits over the last 24 hours, and it seems that the resilient Jodie that we know and love is beginning to overcome her oppressors and is showing us the first glimpses of the witty, energetic and fun loving real Jodie that we have all been waiting to see. Let's hope she is given a chance to continue on her journey and show the nation what she is really like. Yes it is eviction day, yes it is Friday 13th, and yes we all have a small amount of paraskevidekatriaphobia lurking deep inside us, but we can all keep pressing redial on our phones until our thumbs ache, and hold our breath in anticipation until we discover what the nation has decided tonight. Whatever the outcome, we can be secure in the knowledge that Jodie will use her enviable strength of character and determination to use it as a spring board to achieve further success.

Bring on tonight....

All our love,

Sarah, Stevie, Jordan, Lauren, Dave, Marge, Parge, Paddy and the rest of the gang
